Machek N’Gult Lodge #375
Vigil Members
1947 - 1964
Miscellaneous Lodge Chiefs & Advisors Machek N'Gult Lodge Flap (c 1957)

The Vigil Honor is the highest honor that the local lodge can bestow upon its Brotherhood members.  Vigil Honor recipients are still Brotherhood members, but have been recognized by their Lodge, and the National Order of the Arrow Committee, for their continued service and dedication to the order.  The first Vigil Honors were bestowed upon E. Urner Goodman and Carroll A. Edson the founders of the Order of the Arrow in 1915.

Members that have been approved by the National OA office are inducted during a special ceremony, where they are given their Vigil name in both English as well as the language of the Leni Lenapi, the Native American Indian tribe that inspired the Order of the Arrow.   For instance: Machek N’Gult Vigil Member Don Wilkinson’s Indian name is “Amochk Alogeen” which when translated means “Working Beaver”. The use of bizarre and funny Vigil names that reflected the individual’s persona began in Machek N’Gult and carried on with Achewon Nimat.  One member was even known as “Big Fish with Turkey Lips”.

The following are the 49 Brotherhood members of Machek N’Gult Lodge 375 that received the Vigil Honor until the merger with Royaneh Lodge #282 in December of 1964.
